What? We aren’t our body?
You are awareness, you are the watcher of your body, you are the observer of your thoughts.
Most people identify themselves as their body and mind. However, that is not who we are. Both the body and mind change and what is always present is awareness and consciousness. As one meditates the realization we are not the body and the mind often develops.
We are all souls that are choosing to be trapped in this material existence. The body is merely the vehicle for the soul. When you drive a car, do you identify as the car? “I’m going to the store, I am now no longer a human, I’m a Honda Civic”. Same idea…we identify as the body through a misconception of material life. This is the most important concept…I am not this body.
Next idea is the mind…what is it? The mind is essentially a sorting system. It’s a pattern recognition computer. It gathers data from the senses and sorts into likes vs dislikes. When we allow our mind to dictate our decisions without first controlling the mind, we end up chasing sense gratification. We need to overcome that by giving the mind better inputs. Focusing on the supreme and making that the overarching goal, we now force the mind to do its likes/dislikes sorting through another lens.
In terms of connection, the connection is that with the divine/supreme god.. And while all of this material life is a manifestation of gods energy, the goal is not to identify with the material world but to identify with the source of that energy.
Recently I faced physical health challenges that left me bewildered and frustrated. I have had so many health challenges and I was over it! I asked, why me? And quickly knew that would not serve me! That is when I was introduced to the fact, My body is not who I am, and started researching for what I knew was true from within in, and was pleasantly surprised to find that I am correct. The real me , the true me had no physical symptoms and I am whole. How freeing. I started embracing this truth and every time my body tried to express pain, I acknowledged the pain and told it that my body is not in pain, and intertwined my whole body into the perfect one and the pain subsided (at times kicking and screaming) because it was stubborn. Gradually it become less evident and there was less testing. I am energy. It worked. That is why I am sharing this article. You too can be free from the tormenting , intrusive thoughts.
*I did ask some friends for their input.
Here they are; We are not our body, we are the universe inverted into a body. Every organ, every blood vessel and cell represents something on a cosmological level. ~Barbara Symons
Also; I believe that we are spirit slowed down to visibility. I believe we are spirit through and through according to the classic amplified of I Thessalonians 5:23. I see spirit, soul and body as One, rather than three. The Aramaic does not divide our anatomy up. When we see this Oneness it constitutes immortality. However, if people divide there will come a literal divide or separation in their subjective experience. I believe we decide that which we experience in life. However, when people lose their physical bodies the part that leaves is who they are as spirit. On the level of the carnal/natural the body is not who people truly are, but on the level of spirit there is no separation. I choose to live from the realm of spirit. Jesus said to ‘call no man on earth your father, for you have One Father which is your Heavenly Father’. I take that to mean that I have spirit DNA through and through. We are exempt from every kind of death according to I Timothy 6:16 in the Classic Amplified. ~ Dr Kay Fairchild
